Light up your holiday - and save the environment
and money at the same time!
Date: December 4, 2007
Various Interfaith
Power and Light programs have sent us this information on energy-saving
strings of lights you might want to find.
Holiday lighting
could add $30 or more to your electric bill!
Incredibly
efficient LED Holiday Lights use only 0.04 watts per bulb, 1/10th
the energy of mini-lights and 1/100th the energy of C-7 4 watt
bulbs.
At around
$10.00 a strand, not a bad investment, particularly when the bulbs
last over 100,000 hours-that's over ten years of continuous use.
LED light
strings are also safer. The faceted plastic bulbs remain cool,
and are less likely to break than glass. The strings are weather
resistant, rust-proof and are available in an assortment of bulb
sizes, colors, and strand lengths.
You can buy
affordable LED holiday lights easily on-line at shopIPL.org and
have them shipped directly to your house. Receive 10% off your
total order when you enter "shopipl" in the "discount/coupon"
field at check out.
If you prefer
shopping locally, some retailers that carry LED holiday lights
include:
Target
Walgreen's
Lowe's
Home Depot
Ace Hardware
True Value
We bought
these lights here in Sacramento, and they are just lovely! They
come in white or colors, large bulbs and small. Yes - they are
more expensive, but they will last for years, and saving money
on utility bills plus energy use makes these ultimately quite
affordable. Our old strings need replacements every year - and
the right bulbs never seem to be at hand. We are very happy with
these and very happy we're doing something to reduce the impact
of Global Warming.
Wishing you
peace and joy in this holiday season!
